ERASMUS: An experience to Lublin and Bari

My name is Giuseppe Mastronardi, I’m from Italy and I study Marketing and Corporate Communications at the faculty of Economics in the University of Aldo Moro Bari. I’m an extroverse and empathetic person that like to going out and enjoying the life.

I’m from Bari, an historic port city of the Adriatic coast of southern Italy, in the region of Puglia. It serves as both the capital of the province of Bari and a major cultural and economic hub for the area. Known for its rich history, Bari is a blend of ancient architecture, charming old streets, and a vibrant modern atmosphere.

Orecchiette, the typical homemade pasta in Bari

Bari is also famous for its culinary delights, particularly its traditional pasta like orecchiette, which is often served with rich sauces and locally sourced ingredients. With its combination of historical charm, coastal beauty, and culinary excellence, Bari is a must-visit destination for those seeking to experience authentic Southern Italian culture. You can find the original one in the streets of Bari’s Old Town, where elderly womans try to sell you.

Why a polish student have to choose Bari for his erasmus

I want to share with you an experience of Erasmus in my city by a polish girl called Dominika, that is from Varsaw and study in my city for a year. I met dominika in Bologna, we were both on holiday there and we shared great moments together.

Dominika experience in Bari

Bari, the capital of the Puglia region in southern Italy, is a city full of contrasts, which from the perspective of a Polish student can be a fascinating and sometimes surprising experience. Coming here for Erasmus, I immediately noticed the difference in the atmosphere compared to Polish academic cities like Krakow, Lublin or Warsaw. The first thing that caught my attention was the southern climate and lifestyle. In Bari everything happens a little more slowly. Bari is so beatiful, one of the biggest advantages of living in Bari is the food, italian cuisine, especially from Puglia, is rich in fresh products: olive oil, tomatoes, seafood, delicious panzerotti and focaccia. Italy is not just food, but also open and helpful people. What encouraged me most to study here was the beautiful sea and landscapes,Bari’s biggest advantage is its proximity to the sea, the beaches, both the urban ones and the more hidden ones on the outskirts, fascinate with their beauty. After classes you can go to the Adriatic sea and enjoy the sun – it’s a completely different lifestyle than in Poland, where everyone is more focused on work and less on rest. Italians love to enjoy the moment and meet for an aperitif. I have the impression that they are more capable of living here and now, without worrying about the future

Why an italian student have to choose Lublin for his erasmus?

I arrived here in Lublin on September 29th on a sunny day, I live in a private dormitory called burzuj with 4 other Italian guys with whom I have an extraordinary relationship. The city is very different from my original city, quieter and unfortunately, without the sea. I chose Lublin because I wanted to live in a city different from my own and get out of my comfort zone. Certainly for an Italian the biggest obstacle can be the climate, but if you wear the right clothes you can tolerate everything, but you have to adapt. With all my Italian friends we have visited Krakow, Warsaw,Zamosc and we are planning to go to Gdansk and Wroclaw. So for all Italians who want to come to Erasmus in Lublin, get ready to party with the Spaniards and visit all of Poland, but remember to bring weighted clothes with you!
